Revolutionary Road Review
I watched the movie “Revolutionary Road” last night. I like movies but I very rarely take the time to sit down and actually watch one. I would say that I average one movie a month, thus making “Revolutionary Road” my October selection. It is the story of a young couple that gets married and has a few kids. They hate their “typical” life in suburbia because they feel that they are special and not the average type. All of this hate spawns from the wife always envisioning her future much different and more exciting. She could never except who she actually was, she had a mental picture of herself that was much different than reality. It wasn’t a masterpiece, by any means, but there were some themes that were interesting throughout. Some would call it depressing; I would call it real. I wouldn’t recommend the movie to any of you, but it did force me to think about my life, so maybe it was more moving than I know.
The movie gave me a lucky feeling. For example, have you ever been in a bar and watched a drunk stumble around making a fool out of him/herself? Have you ever said to yourself, “Wow…I need to stop drinking, I never want to end up like that person!”? Sometimes when you’re shown the bottom, the top becomes clearer. It is a huge benefit and quite a luxury to be shown the bottom as opposed to actually experiencing it. It made me think about how much I have learned about life, what to avoid and what to pursue, simply by keeping my eyes and ears open. Wisdom comes from learning, learning takes attention.
